Jens Passoth is a photographer and visual artist based in Berlin. He spent his early childhood in Japan and became aware of himself in the Japanese rock gardens.
He is especially interested in aspects of interaction between humans and their environment. Terms such as the natural and the artificial, the grown and the constructed, the archaic and the domesticated resonate in his work.
With this approach he creates unique visual and conceptual narratives and has realised commissioned work for national and international magazines, agencies and clients in more than 20 countries on five continents since the late 1990´s.
His work has been awarded with the Aenne-Biermann-Preis and the Hansel-Mieth-Preis and exhibited at the European Month of Photography Berlin, Darmstädter Tage der Fotografie and Le Festival Voies Off d´Arles.
He studied Visual Communication at the University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld (Prof. Gottfried Jäger and Prof. Karl-Martin Holzhäuser).
He was Senior Lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt Faculty of Design in 2014/2015 and is a member of DGPh.
